Mrs. Amanda Tieman, Director of Bands
I have been a band director for ten years and am beginning my second year as Director of Bands at Null Middle School.
A native of Huffman, Texas, I attended Hargrave High School and was the drum major for two years, including one year at the Texas State Marching Contest. I was a six year all-region band member and advanced to area all four years of high school. I received her Bachelor’s of Music degree in music education from Houston Baptist University in 2007. During my time at HBU, I was the principal (first chair) flutist for the Symphonic Band and also played with the Huskies basketball pep band, performed in various chamber ensembles, and also served as the band president. I was also honored by my university as a two-time nominee for the prestigious Woman of the Year award.
Prior to coming to Sheldon, I taught in Channelview ISD where I was the Assistant Band Director at Alice Johnson Junior High for nine wonderful years. I also assisted with the Channelview High School marching band during that time. Thanks to the diligent work of my students, my bands have earned numerous awards, including UIL Sweepstakes awards as well as Superior and Outstanding in Class ratings at various festivals.
I currently reside in my hometown with my husband, Ryan, and am a busy mom and stepmom of four–Eli (9), Lily (8), Jude (4), and Layla (3). Outside of school, I perform regularly as a flutist in my church’s orchestra (YES, I practice, and so should you!). I also love the outdoors, cooking, painting, running, and learning about other cultures. I think teaching middle school band is the greatest job in the world. I love getting to know my students and spending time with them, and I love to laugh when we are working well together. I am strongly convicted that as a band director, I must continue to strive toward my own personal musical excellence even in adulthood in order to produce great young musicians. My goal is not only to help create great musicians, but also great people who are productive members of society.
